Statement of the Self-determination Network Gernika
3th November

The network of elected representatives who support the right to self determination of the Basque Country, have been working together for two days in Gernika to create a network to support and defend the political and human rights of the Basque people.

Parlamentarians and elected representatives from Germany, Scotland, Flanders, Ireland and the Catalan countries have assembled in Gernika to discuss the reality of the Basque Country today to define and develop an initiative with the objective to internationalize the desire for the right to self determination of the Basque Country throughout the international institutions and organizations.

The network also includes representatives from Denmark, Italy, Corsica, Galizia, Bielorusia and Andaluzia who were unable to attend this assembly, but are working in their own countries to develop a greater understanding of the undemocratic situation in the Basque Countries.

Senators from Italy who represent Rifundazione Comunista and the Greens members of the Network have presented an initiative in the senate highlighting the current democratic deficit and calling upon the Italian senate to work towards a normalization of political and human rights in the Basque Country including the right of the Basque people to self determination.

All members of the network are committed to work in support of a resolution to the political conflict and have pledged to work together to promote a peaceful and democratic transition to allow the Basque People the same rights enjoyed in a normal democratic country.
